A Clinical Analysis of Spine Injuries

Abstract
Two hundreds and ten cases of spine injuries (330 lesions) were encountered at the Taegu Military hospital during the six years period from june 1966 to may 1972.
They were analyzed as follows.
1. The rate of spine injuries tend to increase year by year as the rate of traffic accident and industrial accident have been increased.
2. The most common cause of spinal injuries was traffic accident (61.4%) and most frequent
injury site in the spinal segment were between 12th thoracic spine and 2nd lumber spine (60.4%).
3. The authors classified the spinal injuries by the mechanics of external forces. The most frequent type of spinal injuries was simple wedge fracture (73.3%) which was induced by flexion violence.
4. Management of spinal injuries were devided into 2 groups as stable and unstable type. Stable type of injuries were treated by conservative method such as bed rest, back muscle exercise, brace
and physiotherapy with better results than operative method in unstable type of injuries.
